Summary from Synopsis

From our research, we developed a synopsis in which meets the needs of our typical audience member, and also most importantly meets to the conventions of a typical Slasher Film. This is a vital aspect to the production of our opening as in order for the film to be classed as a Slasher film specific aspects need to be conveyed.
Through our audience questionnaires we found that our typical audience member will be male around the age of 16-20 he specifically expects that a killer within a Slasher film will be male. From our synopsis the killer is specifically a male,
typically in Slasher films the murderer is male, this ties into specific stock characters within the sub-genre as the males are physically very strong and sometimes very big, making the character almost impossible to kill.  The victim is a female who is 17 years old and the synopsis leaves the ending open to interpretation whether this distinct character could be assumed to be labelled the ‘final girl’ as Slasher films frequently only have a single survivor, She is a female peer of the victims. Victims within this film are killed due to them being close, or having a close relationship with the main female character. The murderer wants a close relationship with the main female character (Lucy) and yet becomes jealous and extremely aggressive when she rejects him, the killings of her loved ones are seen as revenge. This distinctly meets to the conventions of the Slasher film as Victims within Slasher films tend to be young, attractive, high school or college aged adolescents; our specific character Lucy meets to this type of convention when it comes to a victims profile within a Slasher film.
The specific setting we have used for our Slasher movie is a secluded house in which the shrine of the victim is created and a secluded wood, these settings were the most popular within our questionnaires; so as a group we decided that using both settings will create a more intense disturbing tone. Also it creates a chilling atmosphere when both a secluded house and secluded wood is conveyed; it foreshadows bad events about to occur.
Killers in Slasher films often, there identity is hidden. Through the research we developed defining a Slasher film,
we are mostly introduced to the murderer through a point of view shot, and this introduces an enigma to the narrative. As well as building the suspense it also once again shows evidence of hiding the killer’s identity as in the point of view shot we are physically in the killer’s perspective without even seeing the killer himself. We have purposefully included this within our script for the opening scene. We meet the killer through his perspective also we have deliberately added that our victim knows the killer within the film as she greets the killer outside his house by waving at him, but we still don’t know who the murderer is. This creates an extremely intense atmosphere as the killer is freely mingling with his victims, and additionally secretly spying on them. Our synopsis has been based on the typical conventions of a Slasher movie but also on what an audience member wants from this type of movie. As a group we have brought conventions of Slasher movie but also we have created a  more intense atmosphere by using more than one significant setting that is usually seen in this type of sub-genre.
